Mark Zuckerberg says from talking to teens, however, they are less interested in e-mail (it’s formal, football jerseys, it’s long, etc.) and want simplicity. I like my email… but yeah, cheap jerseys, I like simplicity, too. This actually seems to strike at some of the same issues I was ruminating about this weekend.
It’s Titanic – But In What Way?
Today, Facebook unveiled Project Titan – a new messaging service that combines email, texts, football uniforms, chat and instant messages, all in one place. You can even get an @facebook.com address, if you want, though the system will eventually work for anyone.
One selling point of the FB system is that you have a history of conversations across platforms all in one place. That makes sense on one level, though I know that I currently use the different forms of communication… well… differently.
The Happy Accident
Greg Pincus talks social media and happy accidents (and sometimes chocolate)
Some are calling Titan a “Gmail killer” or an email killer, but I would imagine neither one’s death isn’t quite imminent. Still, I suspect this does point out a major shift in progress.
It’ll be interesting to watch things play out… and I wonder when I’ll send my first message to someone with a facebook.com domain?
